The Good Health Alliance NT (GHANT) members’ mission is to reduce the impact of chronic diseases on the Northern Territory population through active collaboration, encouragement of prevention, advocacy and formation of strategic alliances.
Members of the Good Health Alliance NT comprise Healthy Living NT, Heart Foundation NT, Cancer Council of the NT, Asthma Foundation of the NT Inc, Kidney Health Australia and National Stroke Foundation.
Chronic disease non-government organisations are committed to a common cause. We have a strong track record of informal collaboration which has been enhanced through the Chronic Disease Network www.health.nt.gov.au
Additionally, we bring together a range of assets and strengths including independence of action, national affiliations, a consumer base and experience in working in a culturally and geographically diverse environment. Collectively, we represent a champion for the cause of chronic disease prevention and management.
The overriding impetus for the creation of the Alliance was a deep and serious concern about the current dramatic impact of chronic diseases on the NT community and its likely continuance to epidemic proportions in the coming years. This is not sustainable for the NT community or for health service providers.
Other factors leading to the creation of the Alliance included:
- The review of the NT Department of Health and Community Services and its concentration on acute health service needs.
- The need to realistically resource the NT Preventable Chronic Diseases Strategy
- The need for an alliance of non-government chronic disease organisations to be recognised as a peak body by Government.
The Alliance offers a unique opportunity for government, health service providers and non government organisations to work together in chronic disease prevention and management in the NT.
MISSION : To reduce the impact of chronic diseases on the Northern Territory population by facilitating a united approach on areas of common interest through advocacy, active collaboration, the encouragement of prevention and the formation of strategic alliances.
